SATURDAY XI v KNIGHTS VALLEY - 11th June 2016

A much changed Curdridge XI made the short trip to Chandlers Ford to face Knights Valley, a side just above them in the league so a good contest was in store.

The team included a few old faces - welcome back Trevor Cake and Dan Clarke, and two Saturday debutants who would go on to make telling contributions to the game - welcome to the party Dan Reilly and Jonathan Grigg.

Skipper had one thing he had to get right - win the toss and bowl on a damp track following the mornings shower. For once things went to plan and the opposition were inserted.

Curdridge took the field with ten men as Del was late - delayed as a result of the Gosport Hairdressers convention overrunning that morning. Nice car by the way Del!

David took the honour of bowling first over and started the engine at the boundaries edge to build up his head of steam.

First ball was on a length drifting down leg side. Fumbled by Jack behind the stumps - no run.

Next ball was a good length and a bit straighter - batsman pushed it out to Dan Clarke in the covers

.

Ball 3 was a repeat of the second - the batsman punching it back towards Dave mid follow through who managed to reach past his tumpkin and make the stop.

Ball 4 David decided to test out his end of the pitch and the ball sat up perfectly for the batsman to launch it towards the midwicket boundary for four.

Cue - rain arriving in biblical proportions, and 15 unfit men scampering off the pitch to avoid the lightning and take shelter inside the nearest metal shipping container. We were much safer in there.

That signalled the end of any potential for a game of cricket so match was abandoned. The players returning to the dressing rooms to find Del still swapping his disco shoes for his bowling boots.

Significant contributions by many including Jonathan Grigg fetching the ball from the boundary after ball 4 and Dan Reilly improving the fashion status of the team with his red socks.

Next week we are back at home v Trojans 2pm start.

Man of the match: Del Candy - fantastic contribution!
Champagne Moment: Several - all of them in the pub!
